The ideal candidate will have advanced-level SQL skills in Redshift and/or Snowflake data warehouse services, a strong background in SQL based data conversion ETL processes, and hands-on experience transforming large medical claims and Electronic Health Record datasets into the OMOP Common Data Model.

This role requires precision, adherence to rigorous quality standards, and active participation in code reviews and quality assurance reviews.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries and ETL workflows for conversion of very large datasets on AWS Redshift or Snowflake, into the OMOP Common Data Model.

• Develop and manage SQL based ETL workflows with a graphical workflow tool — Pentaho Data Integration (PDI) is preferred — ensuring efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading.

• Convert real-world evidence datasets (e.g. medical claims, EHR data) into the OMOP Common Data Model. This includes hands-on experience with custom mapping of codes to OMOP concepts using tools like OHDSI USAGI and expertise in applying the OHDSI THEMIS data conversion rules

• Implement best practices for ETL processes, including use of staging tables, reference data, environment management (dev/prod), and SQL performance tuning.

• Conduct and participate in thorough code reviews, and quality assurance reviews to maintain high-quality standards and best practices.

• Work with other remote ETL team members in a collaborative environment

• Maintain robust code and documentation using VS Code, Google Docs, and GitHub, following established git version control practice such as issue creation and pull requests.

• Ensure strict adherence to QA processes and compliance requirements throughout the ETL software development lifecycle.

• Manage and execute ETL jobs with operational excellence

Required Qualifications: 2-4 years

• Advanced-level SQL experience working with big datasets on AWS Redshift or Snowflake.

• Proven ETL workflow development with GUI-based ETL tools (Pentaho Data Integration tool is preferred).

• Hands-on experience with medical claims & EHR data, and the OMOP Common Data Model

• Demonstrated success converting healthcare datasets to the OMOP CDM

• Proficient in using VS Code editor and GitHub version control, including branching, merging, and pull requests.

• Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL best practices.

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Python and/or R for data analysis or automation.

• Prior involvement in data governance and data quality management.

• Understanding of healthcare data compliance/security (e.g., HIPAA).

Skills and Attributes:

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Detail-oriented, with a commitment to delivering and executing high-quality SQL based ETL software, and producing accurate results.

• Strong communication skills for conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Self-motivated, and comfortable working both independently and in a remote, team-oriented environment.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field. Relevant work experience may substitute for formal education.
